    Oyster Worldwide Gold residential – Veterinary Experience in South Africa


     

    Shadow a vet and other wildlife specialists, getting a first-hand insight into the life of a vet on a Big 5 game reserve near Port Elizabeth. You will be helping check on the health and well-being of the animals and participating in conservation and management of the park and wildlife in the game reserve.

     

    When?
    You can take part in this programme throughout the year for 4 – 12 weeks. If you are greatly restricted on time, sometimes shorter durations can be available.

     

    What’s it all about?
    Everyday you’ll be using direct veterinary intervention to assist with minor operations or application of antibiotics and vitamin supplements. Furthermore, you’ll be monitoring animal characteristics and health, rehabilitating maltreated animals, understanding how to dart animals with antibiotics and tracking various animals like lions and elephants. You often work with charity staff and a qualified vet is onsite a couple of days a week.

     

    How much does it cost?
    4 weeks costs £1730
    Each additional week costs £335 per week

     

    Accommodation is on site in the game reserve. Beds are in single sex dormitories, with plenty of personal storage space. There is access to swimming pools, tennis courts and beautiful relaxation areas.

    Oyster Worldwide Gold residential – Volunteer with Sharks in South Africa


     

    You will be volunteering to help monitor and observe sharks in their natural habitat in near Cape Town. You’ll be contributing to an essential education and research mission alongside whales, great white sharks, cape fur seals, dolphins and the African penguin.

     

    When?
    You can volunteer here throughout the year for 2 – 12 weeks.

     

    What’s it all about?
    Volunteers will work on an eco-tourism and education boat everyday and will mainly be helping out on shark spotting and whale watching trips, preparing shark cages, recording data and helping with photography whilst educating visitors on marine conservation. Your work will be put into blogs and logging data for future research too.

     

    How much does it cost?
    Departures in 2017:

    Accommodation is very picturesque; near the boat house; there are four chalets which provide home to up to 20 volunteers at one time. There are plenty of opportunities for volunteers to socialise here – there is a lovely garden, a swimming pool, pool table and BBQ.

    Oyster Worldwide Gold residential – Elephant Conservation in Sri Lanka


    Help promote the protection and survival of these endangered gentle giants in the depths of Sri Lanka’s stunning interior. You will become part of an important initiative to bond elephants and communities whilst living amongst these beautiful creatures.

     

    When?
    You can take part in this programme for 2 – 12 weeks throughout the year.

     

    What’s it all about?
    You’ll be working in the elephant’s natural habitat everyday with the charity you’ll be with, working with scientists and conservationists to conduct research on projects ranging from their diet, preservation of their grazing trails, analysing their proliferation at water-holes to the wilderness and teaching environmental awareness at schools.

     

    How much does it cost?
    2 weeks costs £1059; each additional week costs £250 per week.

     

    Accommodation is in the Wasgamuwa National Park where you’ll be with up to 11 other volunteers. There are 5 bedrooms, so rooms are shared with one or two others.

    Oyster Worldwide Gold residential – Game Ranger Course in South Africa


     

    Live the life as a trainee game ranger on a lush reserve near Port Elizabeth combining both practical work and tracking and monitoring work with Africa’s amazing Big 5 animals! You will earn a well recognised FGASA (Field Guide Association South Africa) level 1 qualification; get hands-on experience, geological and astronomical knowledge and conservation management.

     

    When?
    You can take part in this 8 week programme at staggered stages throughout the year.

     

    What’s it all about?
    The course focuses on general aspects of working in a game reserve, you will gain exposure to the wildlife; like lions, elephants, buffalo, leopards and rhino and understand basics of reserve management, breeding programmes, patrols, game monitoring, counts, captures and drives. In addition to this, lectures will help you gain theoretical knowledge on the geography and ecology of the area and gaining your First Aid level 1.

     

    How much does it cost?
    The game ranger course, which lasts for 8 weeks, costs £2835.

    Accommodation is on site in the game reserve. There are large comfortable dormitory-style rooms with access to swimming pools, tennis courts and beautiful relaxation areas.

    • Comprehensive training covering all aspects of the DofE syllabus and a skills/safety session on the water, so you do not need any experience or have done any training prior to joining a practice expedition.

    • On completion of your practice expedition, you will have all aspects of training signed off (providing that you meet the required standard).
    • A dedicated instructor for your group throughout the expedition.

    Challenge Wales is a sail training charity which uses sailing as a personal development opportunity for young people aged 12 – 25 years using an ex round-the-world yacht: Challenge Wales | Wales’ Tall Ship.

     

    Challenge Wales is perfect for your Residential, giving you the opportunity to try something new, challenge yourself, learn new skills, meet new people, make new friends and of course while having lots of fun! Our activities also help develop team work, communication and confidence skills and remember, no sailing experience is required to take part in any of our adventures. One day we might be racing against the international Tall Ships fleet, the next we might be watching out for dolphins and whales swimming alongside!

     

    Challenge Wales provides great adventure residentials from 5 days to 14 days and in some cases even longer providing an opportunity like no other. Bursary funding is available for all UK residents but additional bursary funding for our longer voyages (including Tall Ships Racing) is often available in addition to cover voyage costs from between 10 – 95%, making it even easier to jump onboard.     Peak District National Park Conservation Residential Projects - summer 2017 availability



    The Peak Park Conservation Volunteers (PPCV) provides fantastic conservation opportunities alongside the Peak District National Park Rangers.

     

    You will be involved in a variety of practical conservation projects throughout the National Park during your residential.


    You will be located within the beautiful Peak District National Park at our residential centres, Marsh Farm, near Leek and Brunt’s Barn, near Grindleford.

     


    We provide food, accommodation, use of tools / equipment and insurance for £195. Our projects are available throughout the year for people aged 18 and above and are allocated on a first-come first-served basis (the summer projects are starting to fill up so please don’t leave it too late to book on).

    Description:

    Participants will arrive in the morning of the 22nd and the final expedition checks will be completed. This will include a full kit check. Young people will be allocated expedition groups and a route planning exercise completed for the following 3 day 2 night expedition. Groups will then begin their assessed expedition travelling through the Dark Peaks. This expedition will be assessed by our DofE Accredited Assessors if not completing your practice.

    Canal and River Trust Volunteering Opportunity - Museum Explainer at Gloucester Docks


    Join us as a Museum Explainer

    We are looking for young people, between the ages of 16 and 24, who are available one day a week (weekends and school holidays) for a minimum of 12 weeks. You will be interested in engaging visitors of all ages with our museum stories through object handling and informal learning activities.



    You will benefit from full training, delivered at training days and team meetings, by our experienced Education Coordinators. You will gain new skills and practical work experience. You will also be reimbursed for reasonable travel expenses.

    First 4 Adventure A level revision and Outdoor Activity Residentials


    A LEVEL REVISION AND OUTDOOR ACTIVITY RESIDENTIALS WITH FIRST 4 ADVENTURE UK
    We run residentials throughout the year combining A Level revision with fun outdoor activities. The aim of our residential is for YOU to achieve these 5 things:
    • gain confidence in your A Level subjects through quiet, focused and supported revision

    The Arts Award - skills section activity


    Arts Award are pleased to have become an Approved Activity Provider for the Duke of Edinburgh`s Award meaning that your young people can link their Arts Award and DofE activity and that Arts Award is a recognised activity as part of the DofE skills section.



    The links don't end there though and can be made across most of the sections of the DofE programme. You can link any level of DofE with any level or Arts Award, it doesn’t have to be Bronze to Bronze for example, you just need to work out the level that’s right for your young people and the programme they are following.
