    Oyster Worldwide gold residential - turtle conservation programme in Costa Rica


    Join our turtle conservation programme in Costa Rica. It is open for volunteers aged 17+, who are interested in animal welfare and conservation.


    When?
    You can volunteer for 1 – 12 weeks from the 1st July to the 15th December each year.

     

    What’s it all about?
    You will live in the wild coastal areas of Costa Rica, volunteering with a local charity to help protect both baby and adult turtles. This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a dedicated team to help to preserve turtles, who are at risk of extinction.

     

    How much does it cost?
    We are currently offering £899 for 1 week, £1139 2 weeks, £1379 3 weeks , £1619 4 weeks- additional weeks £240

     

    This includes your airport transfers, accommodation, 3 meals a day, 24 hours support both in Costa Rica and in the UK, training and a comprehensive orientation. In addition to this, volunteers will need to purchase flights, travel insurance and bring spending money. Oyster Worldwide are ATOL protected and can book international flights.

    Sherwood Bushcraft Residential Opportunity - July 2017


    Tuesday 11th July - Saturday 15th July 2017

     

     Join us at our bushcraft camp in the heart of Sherwood Pines to complete the residential section of your Gold Duke of Edinburgh's Award.

     

     This five day, four night residential programme has been designed to equip you with a wide variety of bushcraft skills – from mastering fire lighting techniques, shelter building and tool use, through to traditional woodland crafts such as basketry woodworking and whittling.

     

     You will build your own shelter to sleep in, enjoy night-time challenges and nature walks, and cook your food over the campfire.

     

    By the time your adventure has ended you will have made some charcloth, a leather tinder pouch, a firesteel with an antler handle, a tent peg, a wooden mallet, peg board and spatula, a willow basket, some cordage, some artist’s charcoal and a willow tray.

     

    You will also have had an amazing experience, gained new skills and made some lasting memories and friends.

    Season It - Chalet Cookery and Hosting Course in Dorset - 2017 dates available for just £649


     

    Come and enrol on our fun cookery course designed to give you a head start if you are planning to work a ski season, or many of our students come to learn to cook in preparation for uni life. The course runs for 4 nights/5 days at our base by the sea in beautiful Dorset.


    We collect you from either Dorchester, Axminster or Weymouth train stations and you'll be staying in lovely coastal cottage accommodation complete with hot tub where we also run the courses.

     

    Included in the rate are the pick ups and drop offs, 4 nights accommodation, all food, ingredients and tuition, and our treasured chalet guide and very own recipe book. No experience is needed and we have tailored the course to meet the DofE requirements to count as your Gold Award residential.

    An opportunity to complete the Residential Section as well as sharing your own signature dishes, a main meal and a dessert of your choice. As well as peer to peer learning we have 4 chefs / excellent cooks to deliver their own specialities to the course. The fourth afternoon of the course sees all participants draw lots or agree to deliver a dish learnt that week to a judging panel to confirm their understanding and developed abilities in cooking something new and only introduced to them in the week? All feedback will be fair, proportionate and empowering the love of cooking and ingredients used. A Master Chef Award will be decided upon by the guest panel.

    This course is catering for the needs of those attending who have an interest or passion for Art in its many forms. You will share skills, ideas and passions with your peers and each day will see you visiting and honing your interests and skills. The week will include external visits to galleries, parks and beautiful scenic areas for you to be given the opportunity to try your hand at a variety of artful mediums.

    Bold Adventures DofE Gold Residential - 'Survival Outdoor Skills'

    Survivalists, if this interests you, attending our course will not only give you the basics but further complement your current skills with additional expertise and the underpinning knowledge to really give you a depth of understanding not delivered or offered on other courses. The course is delivered in bite size chunks followed by practical and experiential learning opportunities. The course culminates at the end of the week with a simulated set of survival tasks and experiences. All of these tasks develop your core attributes as a young person.     Kids in Action - Play Assistant Volunteering Opportunity in Bedfordshire


    Kids in Action support children, young people/adults with special needs, together with their families. Our aim is to provide opportunities that change people’s lives.


    We rely heavily on our excellent team of volunteers to deliver the charity’s services effectively and economically – and we are always looking for more volunteers.


    The position is titled Play Assistant, and the hours available will be children’s Youth Club every Saturday from 10am to 4pm and holiday Youth Clubs every half term on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10am to 4pm.

    The position is fully flexible, we are grateful for any available hours.
    As a play assistant, you’ll supervise and interact with special needs children and young adults ages 4-17.

     

    The facilities include a soft play area, a sensory room, IT/games area - including a juke box, pool table, football table, air hockey – as well as an Arts & Crafts area. We also have a fantastic disco and dance area and our upstairs multimedia room has a mini cinema, game consoles, kindles and a 60 inch interactive touch screen board.

    Aldridge Airport Activity Centre Residential


    Complete the residential section of your DofE Gold Award during the holidays.
    The residential experience will involve learning how to steer a narrowboat along the Staffs and Worcester Canal near Cannock (Jct 2 M54)
    You will be following a Governing body syllabus to achieve the National Community Boats Association Boat Handling Certificate.
    Sessions will include safety, steering, maintenance, cooking, route planning, lock work and many more as we journey along the beautiful Staffs and Worcester canal from just outside Wolverhampton to Great Haywood and return.
    Accommodation will be on the Wharf narrowboat and all meals are included.

    Deaf Education Advocacy Fellowship - Skills Section Opportunities


    Activity - British Sign Language and Understanding Deafness.

    The 12 week programme will give the opportunity to gain knowledge and the skills necessary to communicate effectively with Deaf people. The sessions will be for one hour every week for 12 weeks which could count for the skills section of your bronze DofE.


    Basic British Sign Language (BSL) and fingerspelling will be taught and an overview of deaf awareness will be delivered with an insight into the barriers faced by Deaf people.


    Each session the skills and knowledge of the previous day will be built upon. Signs will be taught, based on every topics such as greeting, introductions, family food, pets, home etc. through the medium of activities, games and some video camera work.


    The students will be encouraged to communicate with each other using British Sign Language throughout the course to help them improve receptive and productive skills.


    Learning these invaluable skills can lead to not only a very unique career but also a very rewarding one.
