    Surrey Outdoor Learning and Development

     A week of outdoor activities based in our yurt village. The first night will be spent on our canal boat on the nearby River Wey.

    For only £65 for the 5 days and 4 nights, participants gain a comprehensive introduction to the outdoor learning industry.

    This includes a wide range of activities, how an outdoor centre is run, qualifications available, gain a basic knowledge of how we maintain our facilities and grounds and how to work with a team and customers.

    Provide support to young disabled people who attend Buzz Club:

    • Interests – Encourage participation in a variety of activities: arts & crafts, computing, cooking and games.
    • Outings – Accompany and support the young people to access activities such as swimming, climbing, walking and other social activities.
    • Support – To assist our staff to ensure that the young people receive the best possible support and are able to develop their skills and interests.


    Requirements for the role:

    Park Farm Countryside and Wildlife Rangers Course, Somerset

    A 5 day Residential Gold Course based on a City & Guilds Environmental and Conservation Course, which is designed to help students get a feel of what it would be like to be a Ranger, say in a National Park or for the National Trust. The Week will be a team building experience, with the chance to learn new skills, your instructors will guide you through the decision making and identification prossess. We have added other elements such as Clay shooting and Fly Fishing to brake the course up and make for a more fun and competitive experience. A certificate is issued at the end of the course listing course content, which has proved very helpful to students wishing to continue in an envronmental/conservation career.

    National Trust; Gold Residential Opportunities at Brownsea Island, Dorset - Red Squirrel Conservation

    Red squirrel conservation

    Dramatically located in Poole harbour, Brownsea Island is a haven for wildlife with woodland and heathland habitat as well as a lagoon. Help us to look after our native population of Red Squirrels by volunteering with our warden team.

    Four times a year something exciting happens on Brownsea, we open the campsite doors and allow families to camp. Those who come and stay experience a themed 2 day camp with a range of activities on offer.

    Get stuck in with the campsite wardens, sing at the campfire, dress up in fancy dress and help us with the running of the event.

    Volunteer with Sistema Scotland - Big Noise Project

    Big Noise works with children to help them transform their lives through music. They learn to play instruments, work as part of a team, work alone, develop social skills and have lots of fun. It’s really rewarding work where you will see children grow into proud young people with a sense of accomplishment.


    You will be part of a warm, fun and dynamic team who mentor the children along their path. Our volunteers help with everything including set-up and pack up, being a role model and helping children to play instruments. No musical experience is required – as long as you are happy to learn and have fun. Volunteers need to be at least 16 years old.

    The Yorkshire Wolds Cookery School - 2017 cookery residentials

    The Yorkshire Wolds Cookery School is situated near the picturesque village of Southburn, near Driffield.


    Their five day residential course is designed for those completing the residential section of The Duke of Edinburgh's Award as well as those heading off to university or college or perhaps embarking on a Gap Year.


    As well as menu planning and cooking on a budget, the students will be taught the art of Silver Service, safety in the kitchen, store cupboard essentials, healthy eating and use of leftovers.

    Price - £595 including four nights accommodation, breakfast and evening meals and evening activities or talks.

    Indoor Climbing in Leeds; try something exciting for your Physical section


    The Climbing Lab offers indoor bouldering (climbing without ropes with safety matting), which could count as your physical section.

    We are in an accessible location on Kirkstall Road, near to Cardigan Fields. We run weekly sessions on Monday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Each session costs £7 and lasts for 1.5 hours and can be booked through our website.


    We regularly run  sessions for people completing their DofE so our instructors are familiar with the format and with completing assessor reports.

    Free Fishing lessons with the Norfolk Rivers Trust, Holt, Norfolk

    Do you want to learn a new skill whilst enjoying the great outdoors? You could use fishing as a skills section activity, just make sure you speak to your DofE leader first.

    Go fishing! We have experienced, voluntary fishermen to teach youngsters about fish identification, bait, fishing techniques and aquatic ecology.

    Sessions are 2 hours long every other week and we are based near Holt on the scenic Bayfield estate,Holt,Norfolk,NR25 7JN.

    All equipment is provided and tuition is free however donations are welcome. Parents/carers are encouraged to come along for a walk and can enjoy a cup of tea at Natural Surroundings while they wait.

    InterAct Circles of Support Volunteering Opportunity
