    Museum Guide Volunteer - Gloucester Waterways Museum


    • Lead guided tours and boat commentaries for children and adults.
    • Engage with visitors across all areas of the site, possibly in character and costume.

     

    We will provide you with the scripts and information sheets for the various tours. Make sure you’ve got something warm and waterproof with you in case the weather turns nasty.

    Experience/skills:
    • Good presentation skills and the ability to communicate effectively.
    • Willing to commit your available time to meet the demands of the service and be flexible in time commitment to complete the job.
    • Able to follow instructions and work closely to tour group timings.
    • Willing to learn new skills and techniques.
    • Able to work individually and as part of a team.
    • Be willing to carry out duties in inclement weather.

     

    Training: Guide training, Customer Service a full induction will be included which will cover H&S.

    Availability: Monday to Sunday during the day – flexible.

    Marketing and Events Volunteer - Gloucester Waterway Museum


    Housed in a warehouse at the heart of Gloucester's fine Victorian Docks, Gloucester Waterways Museum tells the story of our wonderful canals and rivers. Climb aboard historic boats, enjoy hands-on fun, watch archive films and browse galleries rich in canal heritage.

     

    To work with the Marketing & Events Manager and General Manager in local publicity, PR and event organising at the museum.

    • General administration

     

    Tasks will be undertaken alongside the Marketing & Events Manager who will give help and guidance.

    Any experience or skills needed:

    • Previous marketing or PR experience would be great – but computer literacy and a good standard of written English is a must.

    Commonwealth War Graves Commission - skills section ideas


    The Commonwealth War Graves Commission have produced the Living memory resource pack containing a range of creative activities to do in a cemetery such as photography, headstone rubbings, laying flowers, playing the last Post, public speaking and much more.

     

    There are also ideas on how to share discoveries about the lives of those buried in your local cemetery with the wider community through working with sports clubs, holding public events, creating exhibitions and much more.

     

    This is a fitting way to mark the First World War Centenary and learn about your community and its role in the First World War. Those who take part and complete the activities will be awarded a Commonwealth War Graves Champion certificate.

    Cookery Residentials with Cookability


     Cookability has been running D of E residential courses for 20 years.
    A fun and flexible Five Day Cookery course which includes accommodation, tuition, ingredients and all meals in a comfortable country setting near Taunton, Somerset.

    This course is designed to encourage and develop culinary confidence and is suitable for 16 - 24yrs in preparation for self-catering or working in a Chalet. Recipes covered include family favourites, dinner party dishes, a huge variety of snacks/canapés, cakes, cookies, desserts etc andstudent friendly uni survival food! All diets catered for. With well over 100 recipes each week there will always be something new to learn.

    DJ Academy DJ sessions - Wembley


     On The Rise Academy is a DJ & Production academy based in Wembley that focuses on bespoke 1on1 & group courses. Each course is tailored to ensure students learn exactly what they want within our organic course structure, at a pace they are comfortable learning at.

    Volunteering with Blue Cross


     Our brilliant network of charity shops across the country need your help to raise vital funds for the pets in our centres and hospitals! From helping sell donated stock, serving customers on the till and even helping with events or social media, we have a role for you! Opportunities are flexible to suit you.

    Our rehoming centre offer a limited number of roles to DofE participants so register your interest as soon as you can as these spaces are very popular! You’ll be helping with pet care and socialisation in our rehoming centres where we help thousands of dogs, cats, horses and small animals find new and loving homes each year!

    Volunteering in Bournemouth with LifeLink


     LifeLink is a scheme run by Bournemouth People First, a charity run by and for people with learning disabilities.


    The LifeLink scheme is about helping people with a learning disability to have a better life. We want people with a learning disability to be more a part of their local community.


    We will match you with a person with learning disabilities based on your shared interests and hobbies. After being matched you will have training delivered by people with a learning disability. Once you have had the training you will then be able to go out into the community with the person we have matched you with. You can both decide together where to go and what to do, but it should be something that you both enjoy.

    Volunteering with YHA - Central England


     Volunteering with YHA is a fun and creative way to complete your Volunteering section!

    YHA National Office is located in Matlock, Derbyshire – if you live locally and can give an hour or two after school, we’d love to have you join our small, busy and friendly team!

    Depending on your interests and skills, you could give your time to the Volunteering Team or the Fundraising Team – or both! You will get involved in administration tasks, taking enquiries from donors and volunteers, and will take on your own projects.

    Volunteering with YHA will be a great way to build skills (leadership, IT, administration, customer care, etc!), meet new people, add to your CV – not to mention having fun whilst giving something back!

    Volunteer with Rolladome


    Rolladome All Skate delivers weekly roller sports programs, for children, and adults, from 4 years only. These include Weekend Clubs, After School Programs, Holiday clubs, along with roller discos, corporate events and parties.

     

    These events are held in sports centres, schools, parks and a variety of venues across the UK and run and managed by our team of volunteers, and coaches. are simple to organise and managed by a volunteer team.     Gold Residentials with Hillingdon Narrowboat Association


    Participants have the unique opportunity to complete their Residential section on board one of our five community narrowboats. HNA is an independent and voluntary-run community narrowboat project with five boats including one historic boat and one with facilities for the disabled. We are based in Harefield, which is on the southern section of the Grand Union Canal, accessible from Denham, Uxbridge or Rickmansworth if you're coming by train.

     

     

    Work on board as a crew member, training towards to be a qualified “Skipper” over a five day period. You will complete the Community Boat Leadership Programme and may qualify for the Boat Handling Certificate, both of which are issued by the National Community Boats Association, and are nationally recognised, while all the time discovering and exploring England’s heritage and the Inland Waterways. Learn new skills, meet people, challenge yourself and of course, have fun!

    Volunteering with people with Disabilities - InterAct


     InterAct need people who are able to relate to, and empathise with, young people with learning disabilities. This is your chance to take on a new challenge and help a young person build life and social skills.

    We support young people and adults with learning disabilities and additional needs to engage in leisure and social activities. We are also always keen to recruit volunteer mentors, administrators, minibus drivers, gardeners and other supportive roles.

    We hold regular Orientation Evenings where you can meet current volunteers and staff over a drink and a chat, and find out if volunteering with InterAct is for you.

    You need to be aged 16+ and available for around 6 hours a month.

    Safeguarding and learning disability training provided along with ongoing support from InterAct. Relevant expenses reimbursed.

    Parkrun Volunteering - Worsley Woods, Manchester


     Parkrun delivers two types of weekly events: 5k parkruns held on Saturday and 2k junior parkruns (for 4 to 14 year olds) held on Sunday.


    Events are in areas of open space, are simple to organise and managed by a volunteer team. parkruns are completely FREE to take part in and are open to everyone.

    Worsley Woods parkrun takes place at 9 o'clock every Saturday at the end of Parrin Lane.

    We welcome DofE participants as volunteers at Worsley Woods parkrun. Getting involved couldn't be simpler. Just register with parkrun beforehand, become a member of the parkrun 'DofE club' (by selecting DofE from the "Running Club" drop-down menu) and then head down to Worsley Woods parkrun and introduce yourself to the event team. You can then start to log your hours for the Volunteering section. Of course you can also choose to do parkrun as part of your Physical section too.     Cookery Residentials in Devon with Root Camp


    Root Camp offers young people (14-21 years) relevant interconnected experiences that give young people the confidence to cook from scratch with direct knowledge of food’s provenance.


    Our courses are structured around three main activities: cooking, growing, and debate.


    We have been offering 6-day cooking courses since 2010.
    Summer 2016. The dates are: JULY 7th-12th; 14th-19th and 21st-26th


    We will be based at Dartington Hall – a beautiful 1,200 acre estate in South Devon. We will cook in a large professional catering kitchen and work in nearby fields with local farmers and producers. Activities will include beekeeping, foraging, sausage making, and working with organic growers.

    Join us for a 6 day and 5 night voyage on board one of our beautiful traditional wooden boats based in Plymouth. You will participate in all aspects of life onboard, from helming and navigation to cooking, getting the sails up and rowing ashore. Come and make new friends, visit new places, learn new skills and above all have fun! Evening activities may include beach BBQs, games and visits to places of interest.


    As well as gaining your DofE Gold Residential you may also qualify for RYA qualifications.
