    Possible Volunteering opportunity with The Slow Theatre Company, Wymondham and Norwich



    We are a small theatre company with children's classes in Wymondham and Norwich. We also run community projects throughout the year in neighbouring villages. We are not-for-profit company, so when you work with us you are helping us help others across the community.

     

    Workshop Assistants
    We are primarily looking for volunteers to help out in our children's classes, Saturday mornings in Wymondham, 10 -12.30 or with our shows. We are also looking for volunteers to help us with our marketing.

     

    Producer Assistant
    Between September and December 2017, we are planning a Youth Theatre Festival, for groups across the Eastern Region, we can therefore offer a Production Assistant role for someone at Gold Level. You will need one hour a week, and to be able to attend the festival on December 9th.

    Please make sure you speak to your DofE leader before starting this volunteering opportunity so they can check it fits the requirements of the volunteering section.

    DofE Gold Residential with The Earth Skills Project, Cheshire - 23rd - 27th October 2017

    What will I do on the residential?
    We will be working in a woodlands in the Cheshire countryside where we will be carrying out valuable conservation work for the Woodland Trust.
    • This includes repairing eroded paths and steps
    • Cutting back overgrown hedges and felling small self-seeded trees
    • Controlling invasive plants such as Holly or Rhododendron
    • Looking after nursery trees by removing tree guards & stakes
    • Creating wildlife habitats
    • Erecting woodland furniture such as signage, fencing and gates

     
    You don’t need any previous experience, just the will to help conserve some of Cheshire’s natural beauty.


    Where will I stay on the residential?
    The accommodation for the residential will be a log cabin at Queen Charlotte's Wood Scout Camp in Alvanley near Chester. The cabin has separate sex dormitories, toilet and shower facilities along with a dining room and a fully equipped kitchen.


    The residential is fully catered and all participants will contribute in some of the cooking duties and clearing up after meals.


    How many others will be on the residential?
    Each residential is normally about ten to twelve people. Each group will have a dedicated, DBS (CRB) checked TESP trainer. The trainer will ensure you are well informed about the vital conservation work that you will be carrying out and teach you any skills that you need to complete a particular task.


    What happens when I'm not doing conservation work?

    It's not going to be all hard graft, we want you to enjoy your residential at TESP. We will run some fun activities such as learning new Bushcraft skills, team games and in the evenings some fun, relaxing stuff too.

    The cost of the residential is £259

    A 5 day gold DofE Residential Course based on a City & Guilds Environmental and Conservation Course, which is designed to help students get a feel of what it would be like to be a Ranger, say in a National Park or for the National Trust.

     

    The Week will be a team building experience, with the chance to learn new skills, your instructors will guide you through the decision making and identification prossess. We have added other elements such as Clay Shooting, Archery and Fly Fishing to break the course up and make for a more fun and competitive experience. A certificate is issued at the end of the course listing course content, which has proved very helpful to students wishing to continue in an envronmental/conservation career.

    Residential opportunities with Nottingham Narrowboat Project

    The cost of the residential is £295, which includes meals, accommodation, use of specialist equipment, instruction by our experienced and qualified skippers and certification with the NCBA.

    You will learn to be confident on all blue runs and black runs and be a pro after 11 weeks.
    The BASI Level 2 is available for skiers enrolled on the February 2018 course. NB This part of the course takes place at the same time as the AST 2 and CADS training so you will not take part in those elements.
    Alongside the many qualifications that you will gain, you will also be trained by your instructors in the following areas:

    Living in Whistler is an incredible way to spend 11 weeks. There is plenty to do and the course will provide you with the skills to begin your journey to becoming a snow sports pro.
