    Rural Pride - Bushcraft and Survival


    Rural Pride Outdoor Learning Centre offers a unique opportunity for your Gold Residential week at our exciting woodland site in the heart of Derbyshire. Brickyard Wood is a 9 acre woodland developed to create a sense of isolation that helps you explore your natural survival instincts with the added extra of expert tuition in survival and bushcraft skills. Imagine you have become stranded on this wooded deserted island with your fellow survivors and see how quickly you can adapt to life in the wild and build lifelong friendships. You will need to make shelter quickly to protect you from the elements and of course build a fire for cooking

    Survival and bushcraft residential with Rural Pride


     Rural Pride Outdoor Learning Centre offers a unique opportunity for your Gold Residential week at our exciting woodland site in the heart of Derbyshire.     Narrowboat residential with Aldridge Airport Outdoor Pursuits


     The Wharf Narrowboat Gold Residential

    Aldridge Airport Outdoor Pursuits are offering the opportunity for you to complete the residential section of your DofE Gold Award during the holidays.
    The residential experience will involve learning how to steer a narrowboat along the Staffs and Worcester Canal near Cannock (Jct 2 M54)
    You will be following a Governing body syllabus to achieve the National Community Boats Association Boat Handling Certificate.
    Sessions will include safety, steering, maintenance, cooking, route planning, lock work and many more as we journey along the beautiful Staffs and Worcester canal from just outside Wolverhampton to Great Haywood and return.
    Accommodation will be on the Wharf narrowboat and all meals are included.

    Peak District National Park Conservation Residential Projects


    The Peak Park Conservation Volunteers (PPCV) provides fantastic conservation opportunities alongside the Peak District National Park Rangers. You will be involved in a variety of practical conservation projects throughout the National Park during your residential
    You will be located within the beautiful Peak District National Park at our residential centres, Marsh Farm, near Leek and Brunt’s Barn, near Grindleford.
    We provide food, accommodation, use of tools / equipment and insurance for £215. Our projects are available throughout the year for people aged 18 and above and are allocated on a first-come first-served basis

    Camrbidgeshire County Council: New Canal restoration residential - October 2017


    Cambridgeshire County Council are pleased to offer an exciting new residential opportunity to Gold Award Participants.


    • Would you like to help the Canal and River Trust maintain our beautiful waterways?
    • Would you like to volunteer in their customer service areas?
    • Would you like to learn how to be a lock keeper?


    We have these activities and more in our 5 day itinerary.


    Foxton Locks is a beautiful place steeped in history with a strong team of volunteers managing most of the day to day tasks. This residential project involves helping out this wonderful national charity with various tasks for the benefit of all the visitors and the waterways users. The site is centrally located with good access from the A14 and M1 trunk roads. The closest railway station is Market Harborough (about 6km from Foxton) which has a direct line to London and Leicester.

    The residential is a mixture of volunteering and learning about the UK waterways, how they operate now and how they operated during the 1700, 1800 and 1900s. I am excited to welcome you to this gentle and historic place, which reflects the slower pace of life enjoyed on our canal and river systems.

    Sherwood Bushcraft Residential Opportunity - July 2017


    Tuesday 11th July - Saturday 15th July 2017

     

     Join us at our bushcraft camp in the heart of Sherwood Pines to complete the residential section of your Gold Duke of Edinburgh's Award.

     

     This five day, four night residential programme has been designed to equip you with a wide variety of bushcraft skills – from mastering fire lighting techniques, shelter building and tool use, through to traditional woodland crafts such as basketry woodworking and whittling.

     

     You will build your own shelter to sleep in, enjoy night-time challenges and nature walks, and cook your food over the campfire.

     

    By the time your adventure has ended you will have made some charcloth, a leather tinder pouch, a firesteel with an antler handle, a tent peg, a wooden mallet, peg board and spatula, a willow basket, some cordage, some artist’s charcoal and a willow tray.

     

    You will also have had an amazing experience, gained new skills and made some lasting memories and friends.

    Explore the areas of outstanding natural beauty in the Shropshire Hills, find out more about the wildlife that lives there, conserve local habitats, have fun and make new friends.

    • Surveying and identifying in biodiverse wildflower meadows
    • Wildlife hike
    • Conservation tasks at the Centre and a local nature reserve
    • Bioblitzing

    Waterway Recovery Group


    Get outdoors and dirty and help restore the derelict canals of England and Wales. Volunteering with WRG is a great experience for anyone who loves being outdoors and enjoys meeting people from different backgrounds and of different ages (18+). WRG offer volunteers a fantastic chance to learn new skills such as bricklaying; stone walling; machine operation and restoration techniques.

    Every summer WRG runs a programme of unique week-long residential volunteering opportunities, known as ‘Canal Camps’ designed to restore the derelict canals of England and Wales to their former glory.
