ROUND UP

Welcome to Round-Up!

In this issue we celebrate the launch of the DofE Challenge 2017 and as expedition season is upon us, we have advice on how to look after the environment whilst you are out and about.

DofE Challenge 2017

Last year the DofE Diamond Challenge raised an incredible £1.5 million to help even more vulnerable and disadvantaged young people benefit from the DofE; funds that will be allocated to every region.

More than 15,000 people took part in the Diamond Challenge, inspired by everyone's enthusiasm we are excited to announce two new fundraising activities; the DofE Challenge 2017 and DofE Adventure. Get a team together and get involved!

DofE Adventure
Join us for an unforgettable journey in the Peak District on 30 September and 1 October. Choose either a one-day (25km) or two-day (50km) hike. Take the signposted route or put your map reading skills to the test with the self-navigation option. Enjoy an overnight stay at Base Camp with 1,500 fellow adventurers; we'll provide campfires, entertainment, a tent and hot showers.

Take on the DofE Challenge 2017

Last year's Diamond Challengers ranged from a team of Air Cadets pulling a plane down a runway, to Mike, who knitted tiny hats for babies in a neo-natal unit. There are no restrictions on what you can do, as long as it's a challenge for you. Push yourself out of your comfort zone, raise a minimum of £60 for the DofE and feel an immense sense of pride in your achievement. Go it alone or get friends and family together for a team challenge. Find out more at DofEChallenge.org.

Looking after the environment

If you've got your expedition booked for this summer please remember to respect the environment and follow the Countryside Code. Use gates, stiles or gaps in field boundaries when you're walking - climbing over walls and gates can cause a lot of damage. Protect the environment by taking special care not to damage or remove rocks or flora such as plants and trees; they provide homes and food for wildlife. Most importantly, make sure you and your team leave no trace!
